THE HENRY & JOYCE W. SUMID SCHOLARSHIP is available to high school seniors and college students interested in studying theatre arts. The value of the scholarship is $5,000.00.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must show financial need and write an essay of 500 words or less on why you think you deserve this scholarship. Financial need must be supported by submission of yours AND your legal guardian's, 1040 tax return (gross income pages only). You must be a student in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA supported by transcripts. You are required to submit 3 letters of recommendation - one from a theatre instructor and two from sources outside of school. You must also submit a resume.

Actors must submit a DVD portfolio of one or more performances

Designers must submit photographs of their work or a DVD of produced designs

Directors must submit a complete listing of all shows they have worked on and the position held on each production

Technicians must submit a complete listing of all shows worked on outlining positions held and the equipment with which they are experienced

Playwrights must submit a one page synopsis, plus a ten page example by January 15th, 2009. After review, finalists will be asked to submit a complete script by March 16th , 2009.
ALL DVD submissions should include 5 copies each.
